National Institute of Design, Jorhat, also known as NID Jorhat or NID Assam, is widely recognized as a pivotal institution for design education in the Northeastern region of India. Established in 2019, it operates as an autonomous body under the National Institute of Design Act, solidifying its position within India''s esteemed NID system. Located in Jorhat, Assam, the institute is dedicated to fostering design innovation and creative excellence.
NID Jorhat primarily offers a comprehensive four-year Bachelor of Design (B.Des) program, catering to aspiring designers with 125 seats available annually. The curriculum is structured across four distinct and highly relevant disciplines: Communication Design, Industrial Design, Textile and Apparel Design, and Interdisciplinary Design. This focused approach ensures students receive specialized training while being exposed to a broad spectrum of design philosophies. Admissions to its sought-after programs are conducted through the rigorous NID Design Aptitude Test (NID DAT).
The institute is developing its permanent campus on 50 acres, envisioned to provide state-of-the-art infrastructure for a dynamic learning environment. Currently, with approximately 28 dedicated faculty members serving around 200 enrolled students, NID Jorhat maintains a favorable faculty-student ratio of roughly 1:7, ensuring personalized attention. A new era begins in North-East part of the country. Long awaited project of NID - Jorhat commenced from this year ...2019..My son was fortunate to have been selected for the design course in the newly started National Institue of design-Jorhat. First reaction of me and all my close relatives was frankly the apprehension and a bit of reluctance as regards to the far distance and the cultural difference we thought might not suit him for his further studies. So we decided to visit Jorhat before coming to any final conclusion.... Yesterday we had been there ....and it was a day, full of surprises and excitement. Jorhat is a pretty big city .. considered to be the most peaceful city of Assam.... It is an educational hub with all Govt Colleges and a very big and renowned Agricultural university as a pride of Johnat. The city provides you anything and everything you would wish to have for you. NID - Campus is approximately 4 km from the City with transportation facilities in abundance. We reached there very comfortably in fifteen minutes. Very fresh , pollution-free atmosphere at Johrat-NID campus removed all our tiredness of a long journey to reach there. ... The sweet ,welcome by the guy at the entrance gate further made us forget that we have come to any strange place. In fact everyone whom we met in the campus was very enthusiastic and co-operative which hugely pacified our apprehension. The Campus is nearly ready and Bamboo theme makes all the structures look ethnic and rich. We met few of the faculties and few administrative staff members. All of them were very helpful and nice to interact with. My son liked the ambience so much that he made up his mind to join here in this visit itself .... Love at first sight.. He is very much excited and eager to become Alumini of first ever batch of NID-Jorhat.
