I feel deeply disappointed and disheartened with my experience as a postgraduate student from this institution, particularly in relation to how academic excellence is not recognized. Despite graduating from the M.E. Applied Electronics program with a CGPA of 9.97 out of 10 the highest in the department. I was not acknowledged with a gold medal, shield, or even a mention during the convocation. The college had previously stated in its brochures, official events, and communications that students securing the highest CGPA in their respective departments would be recognized and awarded accordingly. That recognition was the primary motivation that drove me through two rigorous years of study, personal sacrifice, and academic discipline. Even more troubling, other students with lower CGPAs were honored, while my achievements went unnoticed. After seeking clarification, I was verbally informed by the administration that the award could not be given because the department intake did not meet the full capacity. This reasoning was never previously disclosed, and I could not find any such rule in the Anna University guidelines governing autonomous institutions. According to official norms, the minimum requirement is admission of 5 students, a CGPA above 8.5, and no arrears—all of which I clearly met. I formally submitted three separate letters to the Chairman, requesting clarification and supporting documentation for this decision. Despite my respectful follow-ups and clearly laid out concerns, I have not received a single written response or acknowledgment to date. This lack of transparency and accountability has not only affected me but also left my family, who supported me throughout, deeply hurt and confused. As an alumnus who once chose this institution believing in its promise to honor hard work and merit, this experience has been emotionally distressing and demoralizing. I still await a fair resolution and sincerely hope that the institution reconsiders how it treats the academic efforts and aspirations of its students. Until then, I advise prospective students to seek clear and documented assurances regarding academic policies, especially those related to merit recognition, before committing.
